RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Christians across the globe are celebrating Palm Sunday, one of the holiest days on the Christian Calendar.

Faithful Christians believe Sunday marked the day Jesus arrived in Jerusalem, one week before his crucifixion.

In the Bible, palm leaves were laid in Jesus' path and the day is often observed with palm fronds and a procession.

At Raleigh's Sacred Heart Cathedral, Bishop Michael Burbidge helped usher in the start of Holy Week, which is the final week of Lent.

It's not just Christians celebrating right now, though. It is also Passover, which marks the Jewish exodus from Egypt.
