JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A standoff Saturday night between an armed man and Johnston County deputies ended peacefully.
It happened at a house along Highway 301 between Raleigh Road and Camelia Road. The highway was closed during the incident.
Chief Deputy Bengie Gaddis said it was a man armed with a handgun in his 50s with known health problems.
After a short standoff, deputies got the man to surrender and unload his gun, officials said.
He was being transported to a hospital for a mental evaluation by authorities, according to Gaddis.
The highway reopened soon after.
