PITTSBORO, NC (WTVD) -- Chatham County deputies have charged a Creedmoor man with murdering his stepfather in Pittsboro, officials announced Wednesday.

Deputies responded to a call in the 100 block of Andrews Store Road in Pittsboro on Tuesday. Once on scene, officers found the resident, 72-year-old Warren Ray Barnes was injured and needed medical attention.

Barnes was taken to UNC Hospital where he died, authorities said.

The Chatham County Sheriff's Office charged the victim's stepson, 48-year-old Mickey Bryant Hicks, with felony first-degree murder.

Hicks, of Oakleaf Circle in Creedmoor, is being held in the Chatham County Detention Center under no bond. His next court appearance is on Nov. 14.
