RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Sick of the rain? The good news is it will end tonight in time for New Year's Eve celebrations.

It will be a dry evening to be out and about, with temperatures falling through the 50s into the upper 40s by midnight. That's still about 10-15 degrees warmer than the normal low for this time of year. Mostly cloudy skies will keep the temperature from plummeting tonight.

Cool and dry weather will persist through the weekend and into next week, as passing disturbances will remain to the north. A northwest flow will help clear out cloud cover and skies should turn mostly sunny by the weekend. It will fairly seasonable to start out 2016.

Next week will start off cooler, as a cold front moves through the eastern U.S. Temperatures will be held to the upper 40s during the day. This is a dry front, so no rain fall is

expected.
