SunTrust bank robber caught

Raleigh police arrest Henry Thomas Thorpe for two bank robberies.

The Raleigh Police Department have arrested Henry Thomas Thorpe, 40, and charged him with Monday's robbery of the SunTrust bank at 5135 New Hope Road.

He has also been charged with robbery in connection with the December 19 robbery of the RBC Centura bank at 4000 Capital Boulevard.

Investigators say he passed a note to a teller announcing a robbery. After the teller complied with his demands,Thorpe left the bank on foot.

He was taken into custody without further incident Wednesday by the RPD's Fugitive Squad.

He was identified as a suspect through tips received from callers who recognized him when they saw media coverage of the robbery that included surveillance photos.
