Ice causes some problems for drivers

While much of the Triangle only had patches of black ice for the Tuesday morning commute, there were problem areas. In Wilson County, multiple accidents along a stretch of Interstate 95 near mile marker 120 blocked the highway. The Highway Patrol said motorists could expect long delays and detours.

Elsewhere, many school districts delayed classes by two hours because of the danger of slippery conditions. Temperatures dropped into the teens overnight and any water sitting on roadways froze over.

The DOT had trucks out spreading a salt and sand mixture on the problem spots, and motorists were warned to be extra careful.

The high Tuesday is only expected to reach the mid 30s, but the sunshine should continue to melt the snow. The Eyewitness News Accuweather team says we're in for a big warm-up later this week and the winter temperatures will be a distant memory.
