The ride home for the national champion University of North Carolina Tar Heels was a little bumpy Tuesday, but the team didn't seem to mind much. Their chartered plane had to go around and make a second landing attempt at the Raleigh - Durham Airport thanks to gusty winds.

Once on the ground, the team boarded charter buses for the ride to the Dean Smith Center where an estimated 13,000 fans waited to celebrate their victory with them.

Coach Roy Williams was the last to arrive, and he entered carrying the trophy and the net he helped cut down at Ford Field in Detroit. Less than 24 hours earlier, the Tar Heels beat Michigan State 89-72 for the title.

Williams and all the scholarship seniors on the team spoke. Most of the players talked about how this has been the best four years of their lives, and how they're looking forward to returning to the Dean Dome to see their championship banner hanging from the ceiling.
