From the outside, the Arnold Bakery Thrift Store in Raleigh looks small, but inside the savings are huge.
Joey Ishak says, "I'd say at least 50 percent to 75 percent." Ishak and his family are in their 10th year of operating the store off of Capital Boulevard where all of the inventory is sold at a bargain rate and the customer always leaves happy. He says, "They come in and say 'oh it smells so good' and when they leave they've got two bags and maybe spent like $10."
The bakery thrift store receives bi-weekly shipments on Tuesdays and Fridays from Arnold bread. Joey adds, "Whatever doesn't sell in the supermarket, they pull it and then bring it to us." We're talking loads of Arnold bread, Thomas Muffins, bagels and even Entenmann's desserts. Most of the products have at least 3 or 4 days of "freshness" remaining and all are sold for at least 50 percent off.
Most specialty Arnold breads go for $1.49 each or 3 for $3.99. You can get rye breads for a $1.15. Thomas Bagels and muffins fly off the shelves. You can pick up one for $1.75 or buy 2 and get 1 free. At just a $1.50 a loaf, raisin bread is also a hot seller. Plus, Joey says customers can get free stuff on Wednesdays and Saturdays. He says, "If you spend $5.00 you get something free."
Joey says anything the stores doesn't sell, his family donates, so inventory is rarely wasted. In addition to bread items, the store also sells pizza crusts, Utz potato chips, pita bread, even Weight Watcher bread all at a discounted price.
The Arnold Bakery Thrift Store is located at 2816 Trawick Rd. Suite 108 in Raleigh. Their phone number is 919-872-5434.
