NCSU students slam into fire truck

RALEIGH Morrisville Fire Chief Todd Wright says firefighters were working to extinguish a vehicle fire on I-40 east near Airport Boulevard Saturday around 4:30 a.m., when a car slammed into the back of a Morrisville fire truck.

No firefighters were injured, but two female NC State students in the car were taken to Wake Med. Both sustained injuries that have been determined not to be life-threatening.

The driver, Aubrey Marett, 21, and passenger, Kristen Carter, 29, were travelling at approximately 65 mph, according to police.

Neither girl was wearing a seat belt. It is not known what caused the car to run into the truck.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

Authorities say the firefighters were in between two fire engines when the accident occurred. Chief Wright says the roadway incident policy his department has is what kept firefighters out of harms way.

Details about the vehicle fire crews were trying to put out at the time of the crash are not available at this time.
