Restaurant employee shot at closing

FAYETTEVILLE Authorities said 46-year-old Michael Whitt was shot outside Wiener Works on Yadkin Road Friday around 9 p.m., as the restaurant was closing.

His injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.

Authorities said Whitt walked in from the restaurant's parking lot through a side door, when a suspect ran up behind him and shot Whitt as he opened the door.

Police said restaurant workers told them they heard a loud bang and said Whitt fell to the floor as the gunman turned and fled.

Officials said they suspected the shooting was part of an armed robbery attempt.

They were given a vague description of the suspect, but said it was a young man who drove off in a dark colored car.

Anyone with information should contact the Fayetteville Police Department.
