Holly Springs principal dies

HOLLY SPRINGS Luther Johnson was just 39-years-old.

Johnson was the first principal of Holly Springs High, which opened in 2006. He was sick much of last year, and an interim administrator served in his place.

Johnson had a long career with Wake County schools. He was a past principal of Leesville Road Middle School and an assistant principal of Wakefield High School. He graduated from Winston-Salem State University with a degree in Mathematics in 1993 and got his masters from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1996. He was working on his doctorate at NC State.

Funeral services are set for Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at First Emmanuel Baptist Church.
