Apex teen pleads guilty to rape

RALEIGH Gavin John Clevesy was 17 at the time of the attack last September. He was charged with five felonies, including 1st degree rape and 1st degree kidnapping.

Investigators said he'd been drinking at a party before leaving and walking down Edinburgh Drive in the MacGregor Downs neighborhood. He then knocked on the door of a home. When a man inside unlocked the deadbolt, Clevesy kicked the door in and began beating the man, who was in his 60s.

He then assaulted the man's wife, also in her 60s.

The woman managed to run out of the house, but Clevesy chased her down, beat her again and then raped her.

A group of people attending a nearby wedding reception saw what was happening and restrained Clevesy until police arrived.

In court Monday, Clevesy was sentenced to 35 years 10 months in prison. The man and his wife Clevesy assaulted were in court for the sentencing.
