Soldier attack story made up

HOKE COUNTY The two Fort Bragg soldiers told authorities they were attacked over the weekend, but Hoke County investigators say they made up the story.

Eyewitness News told you about Alex Christman and Omar Martinez Monday. The pair claimed someone threw live fireworks into their truck last weekend.

As a result, Christman was badly burned and the truck they were riding in was destroyed.

Deputies say Martinez has admited the story isn't true.

The soldier says he and Christman intended to throw the fireworks out the truck window but accidently dropped them inside the truck.

Both soldiers will face several charges, including filing a false report.

Christman is recovering from severe burns at the NC Jaycee Burn Center in Chapel Hill.
