Unusual device found at body shop

A suspicious device led to some tense moments and traffic backups in Durham Tuesday night.Workers at a Durham body shop say they spotted something unusual in the wheel well of a car. Auto Smart owner Tommy Lewis says the device was blinking.

It happened in southern Durham at Highway 55 and Sedwick Road just after 6 p.m., creating a traffic nightmare during rush hour.

Lewis told ABC11 Eyewitness News that the owner of the car didn't know anything about the device. That's when they called Durham police.

Authorities destroyed the device with a controlled explosion around 8 p.m.

Police have not said what it was.

Further details about the incident have not been released.
