Her husband is now charged with murder.
Today, hundreds gathered for a memorial service - showing just how many lives Morris touched.
The family of Kelly Currin Morris filed into the church to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," the theme song from one of her favorite movies - The Wizard of Oz.
The book was tucked into a bouquet of flowers from her brother.
This memorial service is the end of a long journey for the family of the once-missing mother of two. She disappeared more than a year ago, her home burned.
Searches had turned up nothing until her remains were found last week in Granville County.
More than 500 people packed the Bible Baptist Church in Butner to hear prayers for the family.
Kelly was remembered as someone with a sweet heart who loved her two daughters.
She also touched the community's heart.
"It just touched me deeply because I have a daughter as well," said Dana McKeithan, a community member. "I really felt for the family not knowing where their child was and not knowing the details of her missing."
"What happened to her is pretty tragic and I feel very upset for her family," said Jennifer Lovette, who lives in Granville County. "I'm glad they got some closure. I think that they deserve that."
