Sexual misconduct alleged against priest

Raleigh bishop Michael Burbidge has suspended the priestly faculties of retired pastor Kenneth R. Parker after allegations of alleged sexual misconduct came to light.

The allegations involving a minor date back to the 1980s.

The Diocese said it has finished a preliminary investigation into the allegations and has reported the matter to the North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys as well as sent it to a higher internal judicial body for further review.

Parker, 73, was ordained in 1965. He retired in 1993. During his time as a priest, he served as a pastor in Tarboro in the 1970s and as a pastor in Garner in the mid 1980s. He was serving as a pastor in Newton Grove during the time of the alleged misconduct. In his retirement, he has sometimes filled in for pastors who were on vacation.
