Violent start to New Year in Durham

The New Year got off to a violent start in Durham, after two shootings sent three people to the hospital.The first happened around 2:31 a.m. Saturday.

Two people were found shot at a BP gas station on Hillsborough Road, after police say they were arguing with two other men.

One of the suspects apparently drew a gun, shooting one of the victims in the abdomen, and the other in the foot.

Both were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The second shooting of the morning happened at 4:42 a.m. near the intersection of Juniper and Ivy Streets.

Police say they were called out to break up a fight between people using large knives.

When they got there, they found a man shot.

The victim was rushed to Duke Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Anyone with information is asked to call Durham police.
