The accident happened just after 11:00 p.m. Tuesday night.
Several lanes of travel were blocked by the truck. Traffic was detoured off I-40 Westbound onto Wade Avenue Eastbound and then onto Edwards Mill Road.
From there, drivers were forced to make a U-turn via the Edwards Mill Road exit to Wade Avenue Westbound and back to the interstate.
Lanes reopened around 6:30 a.m.
Investigators say the truck was hauling 6,000 gallons of soybean oil and that rain at the time of the crash reduced visibility and may have contributed to the accident.
The driver told police that he was in the left lane and was forced left off the road by another truck to his right. The ground in the median was soft thanks to the rain and the truck's tires sank into the mud, causing it to overturn.
