Just before 6:30 a.m., authorities were dispatched to the crashes on a bridge near the entrance to the Progress Energy plant, less than two miles from the Virginia border.
According to the driver of an SUV, he went over the icy bridge on US-501 and lost control of his vehicle. The SUV ended up on its top. He did not have serious injuries.
The driver of a pickup also lost control on the bridge. His vehicle hit a guardrail. That driver also was not hurt.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol was investigating.
