Driver who lead police on chase appears in court

WAKE COUNTY The chase began just after 6 p.m. when a deputy observed a blue Toyota Corolla being driven in an erratic manner near the intersection of Brentwood Road and Capital Boulevard.

The deputy attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the driver failed to stop. The pursuit ended with a crash on the eastbound I-540 exit ramp off of I-40.

Authorities arrested Savvas Avramidis of Apex at the scene.

The 22-year-old went before the magistrate Tuesday night. When the judge asked him why he was fleeing from police, he reportedly answered, he was just being stupid.

On Wednesday, he made his first court appearance for multiple charges, including felony fleeing and eluding arrest. It comes on top of another fleeing/eluding arrest charge from March 5 in Apex, along with a pending DWI charge from January.

Avramidis is scheduled to return to court on April 13 on most recent charges.
