Rocky Mount officer and cadet arrested

PITT COUNTY

Deputies say the investigation began when a stolen gun was pawned at Coastal Pawn in Greenville. Detectives traced the Benelli Nova 12-gauge pump shotgun to the 2007 burglary.

Now, 25-year-old David Ryan Christman, of 3206 Sunset Ave., Rocky Mount and 25-year-old Marvin Joshua Cobb, of 3018 Northridge Drive, Rocky Mount, are charged with breaking and entering of a vehicle, larceny of a firearm, and possession of a stolen firearm.

Christman is now an officer with the Rocky Mount Police Department. Cobb is a student in Basic Law Enforcement Training. Both men lived in Greenville in 2007.

"It is always difficult to investigate another officer of the law," said Pitt County Sheriff Neil Elks in a statement. "But we are not above the law. In fact, we are held to higher standards."

Christman and Cobb are both free on bond.

The Rocky Mount Police Department said Friday that Christman has been suspended without pay. He's been with the department since February of 2009.
