Durham church van crashes in GA

DURHAM According to the Savannah Morning News, it happened around noon just south of the Ga. 21 overpass.

The newspaper said the van belongs to a Durham church and that authorities believe a tire blew, causing the driver to skid more than 250 feet across three lanes of traffic. The van flipped twice before coming to a rest in the middle of an on-ramp.

When police arrived at the scene, they said several passengers had been thrown from the van. The newspaper said investigators believe few of them were wearing their seat belts.

Nine people were taken to the hospital. The extent of their injuries have not been released.

Family members told ABC11 Monday that the van belonged to the Miracle Temple in Durham. They said two people hurt in the crash have undergone surgery and they're trying to get some moved to Duke for treatment.
