Girl attacked by shark to be released from hospital

OCRACOKE ISLAND

Lucy Mangum was attacked while she was on a boogie board in shallow water near the southern tip of Ocracoke Island, south of Ocracoke Village, around 5 p.m. on July 19.

Bystanders told emergency crews it appeared as if the 6-year-old was attacked in the South Point area of the beach.

Mangum was bitten on the lower portion of her right leg and on her foot.

"I only saw its tail," Lucy told Good Morning America Tuesday.
