UNC police investigating attempted campus rape

CHAPEL HILL

The victim told investigators it happened around 3:30 a.m. Friday. She reported the incident around midday Friday.

The woman said she was walking alone on campus when a dark-skinned black male, described as bald, aged 35 - 40, with average height and build, approached and pushed her to the ground near the sundial in front of the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center.

The victim, who was not injured, was quickly able to escape; the suspect fled on foot.

UNC Police are asking anyone with information which may help to identify the suspect to call 911 or contact CrimeStoppers at (919) 942-7515. Calls are confidential and anonymous.

University police also remind the campus community to be vigilant about personal safety and report any suspicious activity by calling 911 immediately.
