The State Public Health Lab confirmed that the two animals were rabid hours after they were picked up in the Lake Crest and Briarwood Hills subdivisions. Residents in the area where the raccoons were found should be on alert for other sick or abnormal acting wildlife.
There have now been 14 cases of rabies in the county since January 1.

ts.The first sign an animal is rapid is a change in behavior. Animals may become aggressive, attacking for no reason, or they may become very quiet. Wild animals can lose their fear of people and act tame. Rabid animals may walk in a circle, drag a leg, or fall over. Some cannot swallow so they are not able to eat or drink and often drool. Animals usually die within a week after first becoming ill.
If you are bitten or scratched by an animal, wash the wound, seek medical attention/advice, and call Animal Control or the sheriff's office.
