The Rocky Mount Police Department said around 6:30 p.m. Friday, 30-year-old Anthony Corta Cooper was shot as he walked out of the Neighborhood Grocery at 701 Myrtle Ave.
Police identified the suspect as 25-year-old Tarrell Antoine Powell. They said the men knew each other and had been involved in an earlier altercation.
Cooper was taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital where he later died.
Detectives have warrants for Powell.
