Ft. Bragg soldier charged in shooting death

A Fort Bragg soldier has been charged in the shooting death of a retired sergeant major in Fayetteville last month.

Staff Sgt. Clyde Terrell Cobb, 41, is charged with voluntary manslaughter in connection with the shooting death of retired Command Sgt. Maj. Raymond Thompson of Raeford.

The 56-year-old Thompson was found dead in a car at the Carrington Place Apartment complex on Sept. 9.

Police said Cobb also was shot during a confrontation and was treated and released from Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Cobb was released from the Cumberland County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond. He is stationed with the 112th Signal Brigade.
