Man pleads guilty to Raleigh rape, beating

RALEIGH

Twenty-six year old Mitchell Dean Morrison was charged with breaking into a 22-year-old woman's apartment. He held a steak knife to her throat and repeatedly raped, bit, and beat her for the next five hours.

It happened just blocks from the NC State campus.

"No one should have to go through what she did. It was not right. It never should've happened. She's innocent and I am guilty," Morrison told Wake County Superior Court Judge Howard Manning Monday.

Morrison's victim was only able to escape by convincing him she had to go to the bathroom.

In court Monday, she said she has not recovered from the attack.

"I still have nightmares. I lock doors eight million times. I fear everyone," she said. "He haunts me. He ruined every relationship I've ever had and ever will have."

In pleading for mercy from the court, Morrison blamed alcohol, and prescription drugs.

"I'm terribly sorry. It should never have happened. That's not me," Morrison told Judge Manning.

Manning sentenced Morrison to serve no less than 32 years in prison, for the rape and the burglary.
