Eleven people are recovering from a three-car pileup that happened Monday on Highway 55 at Eason Lane, south of the town of Angier in Harnett County.

Authorities said the accident happened around 8 p.m. when one vehicle stopped to make a turn and a second vehicle tried to pass on the right but sideswiped the first vehicle.

A third car then ran into the back of the first car.

Authorities said six of the victims were in one van. One person was flown to a local hospital.

The rest of the victims were taken to the hospital with non- life- threatening injuries.

Highway 55 had to be shutdown as crews cleared the scene.

It is unclear if charges have been filed.
