Police: Bullet struck Durham elementary school

December 2, 2011 8:14:33 PM PST
There were some frightening moments Thursday afternoon at an elementary school in Durham. A possible bullet from a nearby shooting flew into Eastway Elementary.

Durham police say a window was struck but it's not clear where the window was located. As a result, children were brought indoors, recess was canceled, and the school was put on lockdown.

Some parents were concerned that they did not receive word about what happened.

"It's kind of a shock right now. I mean I send my child to school for safety," said parent Heather Page. "And these idiots come by shooting and it comes and hits the school. And nobody calls me to let me know."

Police told ABC 11 that the school's principal did send a message to parents.

No one was injured.
