Police officer charged with DWI

FAYETTEVILLE

Authorities said Officer Matthew U'Ren was driving his car on Camden Road early Friday morning when he crashed near the intersection of Camden Road and Whitfield Street.

They said the 25-year-old officer called a towing company and had his car towed from the scene without notifying authorities.

When the Fayetteville Police Department learned about the incident, they arrested U'Ren at his home.

He was taken to the Cumberland County Detention Center, where his blood alcohol level registered at a 0.12.

U'Ren was charged with driving while impaired, misdemeanor hit and run, and careless/reckless driving.

U'Ren has worked with the Fayetteville Police Department for over a year and was assigned to the Cross Creek Patrol District.

He has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
