Share Our Shoes founder says she's leaving

RALEIGH

In an email sent late Wednesday night to the I-Team, Jennifer Pierce said she has turned over all access codes to the Share Our Shoes bank account, email, web site, Facebook page, and the keys to the Share Our Shoes car.

The email claims Elvia Gerdes is now the director of the charity.

Pierce's reported departure comes after the state issued a notice of intent to revoke the charity license for Share Our Shoes.

The charity has been under fire for months.

Share Our Shoes has been collecting donated shoes and giving them to the needy both here and overseas, but the I-Team was tipped and confirmed the charity was actually selling large amounts of the donations, and not distributing them.

Pierce posted the following on her Facebook page Tuesday night:

"God. I SURRENDER! I abandon my self.....and my own self will. Including Share Our Shoes. May I become your work and not work so hard on doing the work. May the NEW director of SOS be blessed and as well be a blessing to others. I enjoyed my time at Share Our Shoes and remember all the wonderful people I have met."

The I-Team spoke with Elvia Gerdes Thursday. She told us she hasn't even been to Share Our Shoes in over two months, and didn't know about Pierce's resignation until we told her about it. She added she tried to fire Pierce two months ago, but she wouldn’t leave.

Gerdes said she plans to wait for results of the Secretary of State investigation before doing anything with Share Our Shoes.
