Wrestling coach suspended pending investigation

WENDELL, N.C.

Officials identified the teacher as James McNamara, who has been at Corinth Holders High School since Aug. 2010 as a history and civics teacher. The Johnston County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the allegations.

They declined to release any details about the alleged incident and whether it occurred on the school's campus.

"Our main priority is providing a safe and orderly environment for all of our students and when we have those things come up, we investigate," said Johnston County Schools Superintendent H. Edward Croom.

Meanwhile, more than 40 of McNamara's wrestlers and their parents got together Wednesday evening to show their support. They said there's no way the coach did anything inappropriate.

"I just don't see him doing this," said wrestler Tyler Johnson.

"I can't believe it," said parent Bruce Gray. "I just can't believe a single word of it. He's the kind of coach you want your kids to emulate and to be a role model for them."

No charges have been filed.
