Crews rescue family dog in Holly Springs fire

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C.

The fire broke out at the home in the 5000 block of Sunset Fairways Drive around 12:45 a.m.

Once crews arrived, the family told them that their 13-year-old dog was still in the house. Firefighters went inside and found the dog unconscious in a bedroom closet. EMS revived it using an oxygen mask made for animals.

The fire has been ruled accidental. Investigators determined that the fire was caused by the spontaneous combustion of rags soaked with teak oil that had been used on the enclosed porch and decking.
