Facebook shutting down email service

MENLO PARK, Calif.

The company announced Tuesday that it will pull plug on the little-used service.

Emails showed up as messages for Facebook users, but the service never took off.

Facebook says it plans to focus more on mobile messaging.

Last week, the company acquired Whatsapp, a mobile messaging service.

If you used your Facebook email, messages will be forwarded to your account's primary email address.
