New online tool can help you save on a move
If a move is in your future, there's a new tool that can help you save.

A new online tool allows you to price compare moving transportation costs and labor.

Anyone who has moved knows it can be stressful and costly. According to the U.S. Census, more than 19 million households move each year with an average cost of more than $12,000. However, there's a new way to help you save.

"So what we really wanted to do was make a resource where you could see the average prices for the transportation and then on HireAHelper.com we have the labor prices as well," said Mike Glanz, the co-founder and CEO of HireAHelper.com.

"We started HireAHelper.com in 2007 so people could compare prices on moving labor companies," said Glanz. "But, what we started realizing is there really is no way for people to compare prices on moving trucks or storage containers."

The site allows you to put in your zip code and instantly price compare costs when it comes to hiring a two-person crew to help with a move.

HireAHelper.com has also rolled out a new feature - Moving101 - allowing you to do the same comparison shopping with moving trucks as well.

"We have over 100,000 people who have used our site and we've been collecting reviews with them for over five years," explained Glanz. "And the end result is we have thousands of reviews on every single transportation company out there - all the major ones at least. So, we have all the information out there. Storage containers and freight trailers are also listed."

You can also find price tips and comparisons on how to save using a hybrid move rather than a full service company.

"Usually, a couple men to load a truck or container starts at around $200," said Glanz. "And, people don't understand a $200 full service move usually equated to a $600 hybrid move for a single person."
