Free proctoring available at Wake County libraries
December is test season for students and many local libraries offer free services including proctoring and SAT and ACT mock tests.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Prepping for a big test like the SAT or ACT can be stressful. So, feeling fully prepared is key, and it's something your library card can help with -- all free of charge.

"All of our regional libraries across the county give free test practice sessions administered by Kaplan," explained Cameron Village Regional Library Manager Robert Lambert.

"We simulate the test environment that you'll experience at the real tests and you can choose to take the full SAT or ACT," said Lambert.

The practice tests are offered three times a year -- December, April, and August -- to help students know what to expect for the real thing.

"I know from feedback it's been very valuable for students who take it," said Lambert. "I know their parents appreciate it because they look very hard for something like this and we offer it for free. You have three or four hours to complete it and the proctor will treat it as if it were a real environment, a real test. Then, in January, you'll get a packet that's a personalized analysis of your scores and feedback with test taking strategies."

Wake County Regional Libraries also offer free test proctoring services as well.

"It's a rather new service that we've instituted and it was popular from day one," said Lambert.

To use the free proctoring service, you book a slot online and the library works with your instructor from there.

"In general, we have all the supervision that's required," explained Lambert. "We know exactly what the conditions are that each instructor insists upon and we keep in communication with them if there's ever a problem."

The proctoring service is offered at all the Wake County Regional Libraries, along with the free ACT/SAT practice testing. However, early enrollment is encouraged because the programs are quickly becoming very popular because they are free.
