Teen arrested in connection with carjacking

KNIGHTDALE

The Highway Patrol helicopter and a team of troopers returned to Rock Quarry Road Thursday.

They spent the morning trying to recreate what happened Wednesday night -- a 3-car crash that sent five people to the hospital.

Authorities say Wake County Deputy Anthony Locklear was responding to a carjacking when he crossed the center line and struck a red Kia driven by 58-year-old Brenda Smith of Raleigh.

She is listed in critical condition at WakeMed.

Another car was also hit. It driver and two passengers were treated at the hospital and released.

The Highway Patrol has taken over the investigation of Locklear's wreck, trying to figure out how fast he was going and what happened.

Additional information about the incident is also being released. Other deputies heard the call about the carjacking. They saw the car and pursued it.

That vehicle and its four suspects eventually pulled over and then fled on foot, according to authorities.

Two people were arrested, one of them a juvenile whose name has not been released.

The other person is 16-year-old Donesha Sanders. She is charged with resisting a law enforcement officer.

Deputy Locklear, the driver and two passengers in the other car have been released from the hospital.
