The murder occurred Saturday in the 2800 block of Pelham Road. The victim was Jamir Whitaker.
The young victim's father, Airic Whitaker, was shot twice and is currently in stable condition at Pitt Memorial Hospital.
The suspect vehicle has been described as a dark green or dark blue four door late model Ford Taurus, possibly with tinted windows.
The suspect in this shooting was seen running to a vehicle fitting this description. The vehicle left the scene in the direction of Winstead Road.
Investigators found within the residence approximately 17 lbs. of marijuana, approximately $3500 in cash, and other drug paraphernalia. The motive in this case is believed to be robbery.
The RMPD has identified a suspect in this investigation, but will not release the name of that individual at this time.
Charges for narcotics as well as reckless endangerment of a child are pending for both parents of Jamir Whitaker.
