11-year-old dies from gunshot wound

HENDERSON

It happened just before 5 p.m. at the North Henderson Heights Apartment Complex in Henderson.

According to the Henderson Police Department, 11-year-old Danielle Terry died from her injuries at 11:30 p.m. Monday. The 3-year-old girl is in stable condition.

Demario Thomas, the 23-year-old father of the 3-year-old, is charged with shooting the girls. Thomas and Terry were cousins.

He is charged with first-degree murder, two counts of asasult with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, delay and obstruct an investigation and storing firearm in a manner accessible to a minor.

Neighbors stood around the crime scene in bewilderment, after rumors of shots fired and children injured circulated.

"I seen her laying in the floor in front of the door like she might have been trying to make it out of the house or something, she was just laying there," neighbor, Gloria Allen said.

According to Henderson Police, Thomas says the 11-year-old girl found the gun and started playing with it. Went Thomas tried to take the gun away, he told police the gun went off. Police consider the shooting accidential.
