North Carolina Highway Patrol says that at 2:45 Monday morning, Salvador Flores-Vazauez of Durham was attempting to cross the US-1 median between New Holland Road and NC-55 when he was hit.
Officials say the 1993 Buick that hit Flores-Vazauez was driven by Nathan Daniel Francis of Sanford.
Flores-Vazauez pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver had no injuries, and will not be charged according to investigators.
The highway was shut down for about an hour.
