Driver vanishes after robbery, chase, hit and run

DURHAM

The truck was reported stolen from a construction site around noon Thursday in Hillsborough.

The truck was spotted going more than 100 miles per hour on Interstate 85 north in Durham, but police were unable to catch it.

The truck reappeared around 3 p.m. on the Durham Freeway. Sheriff's Deputies tell Eyewitness News they began pursuing the truck, but stopped chasing once the truck exited the highway and entered a residential area.

Moments later, the truck crashed into another vehicle at Kent Street and Lakewood Avenue. The driver of that vehicle was injured.

The driver of the truck managed to elude police and sheriff's deputies once again. The truck was found around 3:30 p.m., abandoned at the ABC store on Chapel Hill Boulevard, but the driver was nowhere to be found.

Authorities searched several area businesses and restaurants, but the suspect remains on the loose.
