Bond increase for hit-and-run suspect

RALEIGH

Victoriano Layon is facing two counts of second degree murder. Monday during Layon's bond hearing, his lawyer said there's no denying the fact that Layon ran away from the accident scene.

A brother and sister, Daris Hancock and Wanda Altman, died in the wreck. Altman's son, Lance Nooe sobbed as the prosecutor reviewed the facts of the January accident. "I try not to watch any news, or anything to see the pictures or anything from it. And every time I hear what went on that day, it's very overwhelming."

Investigators say Layon intentionally caused a crash on Jones Sausage Road and Highway 70 last month. The judge denied a defense request for a low bond.

Instead, Layon's bond is now a million dollars.
