Chatham County officials tell Eyewitness News a tanker truck carrying grease overturned on US-421 South at Fayetteville Road in the town of Gulf just after 9 a.m. The grease is leaking and HAZMAT crews have been called in to clear the scene. West Sanford and Goldston Rescue crews are also assisting at the scene.
Chopper 11 images over the scene showed emergency crews working to get the driver of the truck out of the cab. The driver was removed from the cab around 10:30 a.m. The extend of his injures are unknown, but the driver has been life-flighted to UNC Hospitals.
US-421 is closed to all traffic. Expect major delays.
