It happened around 9:45 p.m. Friday at the Primio Pizza restaurant on Yadkin Road.
Investigators say a female employee was leaving the restaurant when she was confronted by a man with a knife. They say the woman screamed as she struggled with the suspect.
During the struggle, police say the suspect attempted to stab the woman.
A witness says the suspect fled then a man inside the restaurant got into his SUV and chased the suspect and ran over him twice.
The suspect was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in critical condition.
The driver of the SUV is being detained and questioned. Police haven't released the identities of the suspect or the driver.
