On Monday around 6:00 p.m., the Chapel Hill Police Department responded to a reported shooting in the 100 block of Johnson Street.
Upon arrival, officers located a 16-year-old male victim with an apparent gunshot wound to the abdomen.
The victim was transported to UNC Hospitals and his condition is unknown.
Investigators charged 17-year-old David Earl Ellis, Jr. with attempted 1st Degree Murder in the shooting.
Ellis is being held in the Orange County jail under a $200,000 secured bond. Ellis will have his first appearance in court Tuesday in Hillsborough.
