A Wake County government worker is dead after an accident.

The incident occurred on Capital Boulevard at the County General Services Fleet Management Garage Tuesday afternoon.

An ambulance parked in the garage fell on top of David Champion as he worked underneath it. Officials are not sure yet why the van dropped.

Champion had worked as a mechanic with the county for the last four and a half years.

"We have lost a good employee and friend," Wake County Manager David Cooke said. "We extend our deepest sympathy to Mr. Champion's family, loved ones and friends."
