Professor killed in car accident

Troopers say 57 year old Lewis Fetterman, Jr. of Clinton, was travelling south on Highway 701, when 47-year-old Alejandro Rivas of Newton Grove crossed the center line and struck his car head-on.

Fetterman was an Assistant Professor at the /*Campbell University*/ Pharmaceutical Sciences Department, School of Pharmacy.

He and Rivas driver both died.

Fetterman's wife, Joni-Fay Watts Fetterman, was a passenger in the vehicle. She is in stable condition at /*Sampson Regional Medical Center*/.

Investigators say the accident was alcohol related.

Troopers also say there was no evidence of speeding and weather was not a factor, even though it was raining at the time.
