Plans for a city plaza at the end of Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh are now on hold.

City leaders say construction on the plaza will not begin until next year, well after the new Convention Center opens.

Officials say the plaza will be a high-tech gathering place that can be closed to cars and reconfigured to host parades, markets or concerts.
