First grader hit while approach school bus

ROCKY MOUNT It happened Tuesday around 7:20 a.m. on Swift Creek School Road.

Highway Patrol investigators say the school bus was coming to a stop when the girl walked out in front of oncoming traffic. According to investigators, the stop arm of the school bus was not extended when she was hit by the pickup truck. School bus drivers tell students the stop arm is one of the signs to wait for before approaching the bus.

The driver of the truck, Henry Ricks, will not be charged.
